Metal brackets are made from cobalt chromium and are bonded directly to the teeth. Patients enjoy having the option of "choosing their colors" (changing the o-rings -tiny round elastics that hold wire in place) to match their mood, football team or favorite holiday!
Ceramic BracesCeramic, or clear braces (think Tom Cruise, Gwen Stefani, etc.) are made of tooth-colored ceramic and are less noticeable than traditional metal. Typically, we use them more on adults concerned with aesthetics as they require a bit more oral hygiene care than most teens are willing to give. The brackets are more brittle than metal braces, therefore are used more on the upper arch than the lower, since the lower arch is rarely seen when smiling.
